Edward Steichen (1879–1973) was one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century, with a career that spanned more than six decades. His work traversed many different genres and styles, making him a pioneering figure in modern photography. Steichen’s legacy is notable for his versatility and his ability to adapt his techniques to match the changing artistic movements of his time. He is perhaps best known for his portrait photography, fashion photography, and contributions to fine art, but his body of work also includes landscape photography, experimental photography, and even wartime documentation.

Steichen’s early career began in the field of pictorialism, a photographic style that emphasized the artistic potential of photography by using techniques to make images look more like paintings. His early works were often soft-focus, with dark tones and a high degree of manipulation. However, over time, Steichen moved away from the heavily staged and manipulated aesthetic of pictorialism in favor of more straightforward compositions. In the 1920s, Steichen began to experiment with modernism, using light and shadow to create bold, graphic images that captured the essence of the subject in a clear, concise manner. This is reflected in his iconic portrait work, which often used dramatic lighting to highlight the features of the subject, creating a timeless and powerful image.

Steichen’s most famous work from this period was his collaboration with photographer Paul Outerbridge and others in creating advertising and fashion photography. His photographs for Vogue and Vanity Fair in the 1920s are considered some of the most innovative fashion images ever created. He used a minimalistic style, relying on a simple, clean composition and a focus on the geometry of the body or the clothing to produce images that felt fresh and modern. Steichen’s use of light is especially striking in his fashion photography. He was skilled at manipulating the lighting to highlight the textures of fabric, the contours of the body, and the subtle transitions in tone that gave his images an almost sculptural quality.

Technically, Steichen was ahead of his time, using long exposures, controlled lighting, and a variety of lenses to achieve the desired mood and effect in his images. He often worked with large-format cameras, which allowed him to capture extraordinary detail. What I enjoy most about Steichen’s photography is how he seamlessly blends technical precision with emotional depth. Whether in his portraits or his landscapes, his images exude a sense of clarity and beauty that transcends time. His mastery of light, composition, and atmosphere are elements I find particularly inspiring in my own approach to photography.

Sometimes the perspective is the illusion. But in the end, it comes down to how we interpret the world and how it can be realized on a two-dimensional surface. It’s not really what is realistic, it’s what we think looks realistic really. So, the things that makes a photograph look realistic,
I think it’s the things that we don’t even think about, the things all around us in our daily lives. But when combining photographs, this is really important to consider, because otherwise it just looks wrong somehow. There are three simple rules to follow 
to achieve a realistic result. You see images that aren’t really special. But combined, they can create something. So, the first rule is that photos combined should have the same perspective. Secondly, photos combined should have the same type of light. Shot at the same height and in the same type of light. The third one is about making it impossible to distinguish where the different images begin and end by making it seamless. Make it impossible to say how the image actually was composed. So, by matching color, contrast and brightness in the borders between the different images, adding photographic defects like depth of field, desaturated colors and noise, we erase the borders between the different images and make it look like one single image, despite the fact that one image can contain hundreds of layers basically. I learned that to achieve a realistic result, it comes down to planning. It always starts with a sketch, an idea. Then it’s about combining the different photographs. And here every piece is very well planned. And if you do a good job capturing the photos, the result can be quite beautiful and also quite realistic.
 

Sandy Skoglund is known for her work as a conceptual artist and photographer. Her art often involves creating elaborate, surrealistic installations that she then photographs. These installations are meticulously crafted and can take months to complete. They often feature everyday objects and settings but are transformed into fantastical, dreamlike scenes, her work themes of reality and illusion, and she uses vibrant colors and repetitive patterns.

Another thing I would buy is two wide camera straps that cost $18.95, I would need this equipment to hold my camera around my neck, I plan to use it all the time, so I don’t drop my camera. Another thing I would buy is a small rig free rover carbon fiber photo tripod kit AP-100 that cost $179.10, I would need this equipment to take still photos, I plan to use this in my studio or when I’m taking photographs of me. Another thing I would buy is an impact 500Ws Digital Monolight 3-Light Kit with Travel Case that cost around $659.00, I need this equipment for when advanced photos, so they don’t come out too dark, I plan to set this around my studio. Another thing I would add to my studio background is a Hensel Integra Plus 500W/s Moonlight WITH Free mask that cost $1,249.00 I would need this equipment for certain projects I need like one I have in mind is strops the color. Another thing I would buy is a Apple 16 MacBook pro that cost around $3,399.00, I need this because I will need to edit my pictures and be able to send my clients their photos. Another thing I would buy is a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens that cost $1,899, I need this equipment for a better lens or just switch it to get different angles to zoom in more. Another thing I would buy is 2 SanDisk 256GB Memory card which cost $29.99, I need this equipment to be able to save my pictures or so be able to see my pictures on a computer. Another thing I would buy is a rolling gear case this cost $575.75, I need this equipment to be able to carry my things around easier. Another thing I would buy is two Battery pack that cost $54.95, I need this equipment to be able to charge my cameras battery. The two last things I would buy is a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 Professional 17″ Wireless Inkjet Photo Printer that cost $1,299.00 and Canon PFI-300 Ten Color Ink Tank Pack-122 I need that equipment because when it comes to photography you must print out your work so you can hang it up. SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ISSUES IN ART

I feel the way I do because I think women should have the right to to do whatever they want with their body instead of following some rules. What influenced me was social media on how others have a say on it. What others may say is they will agree because mostly everyone thinks that women should have the right because it’s our body so our choice. I’m typically talking about abortion. I don’t think my artwork is to offend it’s to make a change. I feel like nobody would get offended because I mean they don’t care because a change has not been made. Yes, it gets my point across because I’m making a statement on how they normalize women’s body’s.

They are all different by JPEG uses lossy compression making it ideal for photographs with gradients, but it scarifies some quality for smaller file sizes. PNG uses lossless compression maintaining high quality and supporting transparency, making it perfect for logos and icons, though the files are larger. TIFF can use either lossless or lossy compression.

Offering excellent quality and large files sizes often used in professional photography and publishing. GIFs use lossless compression but are limited to 256 colors making it suitable for simple graphics and animations with small file sizes. Photography Basic Review

  1. Aperture refers to the opening in a camera lens that allows light to pass through. Shutter speed is the amount of time the camera’s shutter speed remains open when taking a photo. ISO measures the sensitivity of the camera’s sensor to light.
  2. You would need to change your ISO when you want to adjust the camera’s sensitivity to light based on the lighting conditions of your surroundings.
  3. Aperture Priority Mode allows you to set the desired aperture while the camera automatically selects the corresponding shutter speed for proper exposure. Shutter Priority Mode enables you to choose the shutter speed, and the camera adjusts the aperture to achieve correct exposure.
  4. 2 Examples of AF modes are Manual focus it is adjusted manually by the photographer and Automatic AF the camera automatically switches between Single and Continuous AF based on the subjects movements.
  5. Metering the light is essential to determine the correct exposure settings for a photograph. Proper metering ensures that the image is neither to dak nor too bright.
  6. White balance is a camera setting that adjusts the color temperature of the light in your photos to make white objects appear white. Changing the white balance can correct color casts from different lighting conditions like sunlight to ensure that the colors in your photos look natural.
  7. Depth of field refers to the range of distance within a photo that appears acceptably sharp. A shallow DOF means that only a small part of the image is in focus often used for portraits to blur the background, and deep DOF means that most of the image is in focus which is ideal for landscapes.
  8. Drive modes control how your camera takes photos when you press the shutter button, which some include single shot.
  9. Exposure compensation allows you to adjust the camera’s exposure settings to make your photos brighter or darker. It’s useful when the camera’s metering system might fooled by tricky lighting situations, like backlighting or high contrast scenes.
  10. A normal focal length lens typically has a focal length of around 50 mm on a full-frame camera. This focal length closely mimics the field of view of the human eye, making it versatile for various types of photography.
  11. A good versatile zoom lens often recommended is a 24-70mm or 18-55 mm for crop sensor cameras. Theses ranges cover wide-angle to short telephoto, making them suitable for a variety of shooting scenarios from landscapes to portraits.
